DOWRY MENACE...

In India, some decades ago, women were not gainfully employed. So it was customary on the part of the parents
of the girl child to give her some cash, gold jewels, household articles etc., while giving her in marriage. This system enabled the bride to lead a dignified life in her  in-laws' house, and also provided her some sort of financial security. She could sellout the gold jewels at times of any crisis or gift the same to her own children.

This practice of giving voluntarily and willingly, slowly got changed in to a " DEMAND " called DOWRY,which made the girl child a BURDEN for her parents.(But now the situation has improved a lot as women have started earning on getting good education and they are on par with men in all aspects. The age old saying
"WOMEN IN KITCHEN NEED NO EDUCATION " has gone to docks now. )
So when i was born as a girl,i became a burden on my parents, and may be,this is the reason for my parents deserting me.They didn't know that this
"ugly duckling" would become a "beautiful swan" and fly on its own one day...
