PONGALO... PONGAL

Now it is festival time here. This season is celebrated in almost all  states of India,with varied festivities.After  the harvest is over , farmers thank the SUN god for all His benevolence. Rice is boiled with milk and sugar and offered to Him along with a variety of other tasty dishes , sugarcane,turmeric plants,coconut etc.,in the open space of the house which has direct exposure to sunlight (mutham). There are shouts of joy as "PONGALO...PONGAL"  echoing everywhere.


The next day ,cows are worshiped by decorating them with sandal powder,turmeric,kumkum  etc.,.In some parts of south India, jallikattu ,a famous sport of the brave, is also organized.


The third day is for visiting friends and relatives and for sightseeing.People gather in great

numbers  in public places like Beach,Temples ...A great time indeed, to ENJOY....
